A fascinating property of biological neural networks is their capacity to self-organize and adjust their architecture in order to adapt to ever-changing external constraints and needs, through development, learning or evolution. The recent progress in high-throughput recording and stimulation methods have shed new light on the mechanisms involved in these plastic reconfigurations, from the molecular to the system levels, in sensory and in cortical areas. Concurrent to these advances, progress in computational and machine-learning methods enable building in silico neural circuits that can emulate similar functions while replicating essential features of neural recordings.

This workshop will bring together experts in system neuroscience, neural circuit developments and computational neuroscience. Our aim is to allow these different fields to confront their vision of how network maturation Š biological and artificial - leads to the emergence of new or refined cognitive capabilities. We hope that this workshop will foster future collaboration between experimentalists and theoreticians in integrative neuroscience.

The workshop will combine long invited talks by internationally recognized experts, as well as shorter talks by younger researchers. The list of invited people include:

Omri Barak (Technion-Haifa, Israel)

Laurent Bourdieu (IBENS-Paris, France),

Francesca Caccuci (University College London, United Kingdom)

Rosa Cossart (INMED-Marseille, France)

Alexis Dubreuil (University of Bordeaux, France)

Jˇrome Epsztein (INMED-Marseille, France)

Wulfram Gerstner (EPFL, Switzerland)

Heiko Luhmann (University of Mainz, Germany)

Tania Rinaldi Barkat (University of Basel, Switzerland)

Hitoshi Sakano (University of Fukui, Japan)

Jordi Soriano (University of Barcelona, Spain)

German Sumbre (IBENS-Paris, France)

In addition we will have a limited number of contributed talks as well as a poster session, so that each participant will be offered the possibility to present his/her work. In total we expect to have about 60 participants (maximal number due to space constraints). The registration fees amount to about 400 euros (+ VAT) and include the housing for the whole week, all breakfasts and lunches, and the attendance to the social dinner.
