A conference funded by the French Ministry of Research ACI-Jeunes Chercheurs program
Organisers: L. Cugliandolo, R. Monasson
Motivation and scope
It has become increasingly clear over the last years that Statistical Physics and Theoretical Computer Science may share deep common interests. An example of great importance is the study of random evolving processes of large assemblies of interacting units, be they called particles, variables, or processors .... The scope of our meeting is to gather researchers coming from Statistical Physics and Computer Science to expose views, ideas, tools and results related to the dynamics of out-of-equilibrium systems, the study of disordered operators and/or Hamiltonians, and the analysis of algorithms. Our meeting is the closing event of a initiative funded by the French Ministry of Research ACI Jeunes Chercheurs Program over the last three years and dedicated to the development and application of statistical physics techniques to the study of combinatorial optimization algorithms.
Invited speakers
The conference will gather invited speakers from the Computer Science and the Statistical Physics communities. They will be asked to give accessible talks, focusing on open questions in their domains. The talks will gradually range to quantum spin glasses to dynamical issues in computer science, which should allow the audience to see the connections between these fields.
Invited speakers are:
G. Aeppli (UCL London, UK)
G. Biroli (CEA Saclay, France)
J. Bourdon (Nantes, France)
B. Derrida (ENS Paris, France)
B. Doucot (LPTHE Jussieu, France)
D. Fisher (Harvard, USA)
M. Henkel (Nancy, France)
S. Kirkpatrick (Jerusalem, Israel)
S. Majumdar (Toulouse, France)
C. Moore (University of New Mexico, USA)
P. Orponen (Helsinki, Finland)
O. Watanabe (Tokyo, Japan)

Location
The conference will be held at Institut Henri Poincare, in central Paris.
Related Workshop on ``Statistical physics and computational problems: beyond the analogy''
Our conference closely follows the European Science Foundation SPHINX network workshop devoted to "Statistical physics and computational problems: beyond the analogy", planned at the same location (IHP in Paris) on June 14-16. This workshop aims at gathering computer scientists and statistical physicists working in active fields at the interface between the two disciplines. See information on this workshop and invited speakers.
