Welcome to the Folding, Sliding and Stretching lab (Mécanique, Matière Molle et Morphogénèse → M4 in French). Our group is a part of the Statistical Physics Laboratory (LPS in French) at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris.
Our research themes are in fluid and solid mechanics in conjunction with other disciplines: non-linear physics, instabilities, out-of-equilibrium statistical physics, multi-scaled phenomena, geomorphology, planetology, etc. We use a combination of laboratory experiments, theory and numerical simulations. The problems that we study in the team are quite varied: from the adhesion dynamics of reticulated polymer gels or wetting dynamics on heterogeneous substrates, to the mechanics of metamaterials and cohesive granular materials, to the formation of planets, and beyond. The group activity is fundamental in nature but collaborations with industry, with geophysicists and with the medical field give it a taste of applied science.
